However, the pharmacist is likely to have more information, so it is a good idea to ask questions at the pharmacy. If you have any concerns about this information, make sure you address it with your medical provider.

2. Proper Storage

Take the time to ask the pharmacist about how you should store the medication, as all medications have a certain way they need to be stored. For example, some medications must be stored in a refrigerator. For medications that must remain in a cool environment, failing to keep these medications chilled will cause the potency of the medication to decrease swiftly, which will make the medication ineffective. Rather than run the risk of the medication not properly treating your condition, make sure you get specific instructions on how to properly store it. 

3. Usage Instructions

You should also ask about specific usage instructions, more specifically whether or not you should eat before taking the medication. For instance, some medications absorb into the body better when they are not taken on an empty stomach. In addition to delayed absorption, if you take some mediations on an empty stomach, they can make you nauseous and ill. The pharmacist will be able to let you know how to properly use the medication to ensure it is effective.

4. Disposal Instructions

In some instances, when a medical provider prescribes a medication, the individual does not end up continuing with the medication. For example, the medication might prove to be ineffective for the condition or have adverse side effects. Just in case you have to discontinue the use of the medication, it is helpful to ask how you should dispose of it. The pharmacist will let you know if they accept discarded medication or a location where you can drop it off.
